Project Description: The Youth Eating Study (YES!) is a longitudinal, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) funded study examining early childhood risk factors for eating disorders in children aged 6-12. We collect data from children and their parents using a wide variety of remote and in-person assessments. 

Position: This Research Assistant (RA) position for YES! is in partnership with Dr. Sara Bufferd and the Child Anxiety and Mood (CAM) Lab and Dr. Cheri Levison and the Eating and Anxiety Treatment (EAT) Lab. RAs can receive course credit or volunteer. This is an in-person position at the University of Louisville.

Time Commitment:

  • At least two semesters required; one full year (including summer) preferred

  • 10 hours a week

  • Some late afternoon/evening and/or weekend availability required 

Required and Preferred Experience and Information:

  • Interest in psychological research with children and families, disordered eating, and/or anxiety and mood

  • Detail-oriented, hard-working, curious, and responsible

  • Skilled in written and oral communication

  • Ability to work well independently and with others

  • At least two contacts for professional references

  • Preferred: Experience working with children and/or families

  • Preferred: GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Preferred: Major in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related areas

  • Preferred: Coursework in statistics, research methods, child development, and/or psychopathology

Specific Tasks: Tasks will vary by semester, but may include: study planning; participant recruitment, retention, scheduling, and communication; data collection with children and families, including assisting with remote assessments and laboratory visits on campus; coding children's behavior; data entry and management; and literature searches and summaries.
